The video stars
Jerome Ferguson. He talks about his prep for the North America where
he won the heavyweight class. He goes into what he did differently
to prepare for the show, how Tom Prince helped him with his prep
for that show, and what's next for "Hollywood." Jerome
has a great attitude and the arm workout footage is great; especially
with the enhanced special effects Guy adds in to emphasize the intensity
of some of the exercises.
Next star is Abbas Khatami who does
a leg workout and talks about how he got those awesome wheels. He
said that he's been doing the same leg routine (the one shown in
the video), ever since he started training and hasn't deviated from
it, ever. So much for the "shock the muscle" principle,
huh... Abbas's interview in the video was pretty funny, and really
shows his character.
Richard Farley trains shoulders
with Rob Farag. The workout is "smart;" if you watch closely
you will know what I'm talking about. You can see that Farag has
learned from training with Charles Glass.
Finally, 270+lb. Jason Bard trains
chest. I was surprised at how hard Jason looked at that bodyweight.
He's got that silent but intense attitude in the gym, and really
does what he needs to do. He goes into explaining what he's been
up and all that good stuff.
Guy does a great job with making
the athletes feel comfortable on camera, and really comes off well.
The camera work could have been better and overall the video could
have been touched up to make it look more professional, but Guy
took notice of that and is hiring a professional camera crew for
the upcoming Volumes. Otherwise, the sound is great and you can
tell that Guy put effort to put this thing together and release
it in a reasonable amount of time (that's my issue with the BFTO
tapes - by the time they come out, the athlete is like 20lbs. heavier,
and so much has changed throughout the course of time between when
the video was shot and when it's released). The best part is that
Guy is a bodybuilder and knows how to deal with other bodybuilders;
what questions to ask, etc. I can't wait for volume 2 to come out.
I'm SURE it'll be awesome. I think Guy is on to something big. He's
in a position where he can get in touch with athletes at will, and
doesn't have a great deal of traveling to do to get to Gold's Venice.
I expect this series to have the best of the best, with hopefully
more athlete's interviews, and more of the athletes' "human
side". I think a lot of fans want to see the lives of the athletes,
and not just what they do in the gym. With a little more investment
of time and effort, I think Guy can have some the best videos out
on the market because the athletes trust him, and he has a great
deal of respect for the sport of bodybuilding and everyone in it;
that goes a long way when contacting athletes for video-shoots.
Additional features include:
- Up close and personal interviews
- Posing room footage at Gold's, Venice
- Rap song
- Previews
- Biographies
All in all, what I look for in a
video is: 1. Material, 2. Presentation, 3. Quality (A/V), 4. Turn-around
time (when it was shot, when it was released time frame). Overall
I'd say this video has great material, fair presentation, great
quality (for the most part because of the camera work), and excellent
turn-around time. The trailer for the video as at www.grundydvd.com;
hey for $20 you can't go wrong - I can't wait for volume 2!
