Fellow bodybuilding enthusiast, please let me take a minute to tell you why you should read this review. I write dvd/vhs reviews for various internet websites. I do this for the consumer. You see, some time ago I purchased Dorian Yates “Blood and Guts.”
After watching it, my workouts were fueled by incredible intensity and fantastic images of the world’s best bodybuilder. I thought I would never buy another magazine or book again. Well I had seen Blood and Guts so much, I’m afraid to see it began to get stale. So I started buying other tapes. Which led me to the point in which I am at today. I have a huge collection of bodybuilding dvd’s. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 or so. Almost every training dvd which has been released by the pro’s, along with various Olympia, National, USA, and IFBB contest footage. I feel that in some ways this has made me an “expert.” I also have gotten a few duds over the years and I feel that people should be aware of what they are spending their hard earned cash on.
So enjoy this review of “Fitness USA, Guy Grundy.”

The first thing I got in the mail was Guy Grundy’s music video. This is a short, perhaps a better way of putting it is, an extended trailer for a personal dvd that Guy is filming of himself. The trailer had a specifically written rap for Guy, and showed training clips; but the neat thing was it that it looked and sounded like a music dvd. It got me pumped up for the its release!

On to the dvd. Guy’s first volume in his dvd series was to film four up and coming amateurs at Gold’s Gym Venice beach. We see Jerome Ferguson, Abbas Khatami, Jason Bard, and Richard Farley, training shortly after competing in recent contest. So let me take you through a brief overview.

We start out with Jerome Ferguson. Jerome trains biceps, this segment was filmed shortly after Jerome finished 2nd at the 2004 North American’s in the heavyweight class. All through the segment we see some high intensity training, but keep in mind he is coming off a contest. Jerome goes into great detail about his preparation for the show, while Guy asks some pretty thought provoking questions. So its half workout and half interview. This segment provides good inspiration to watch and good education to hear. Let me say that Jerome has a physique that is both freakish and aesthetic.

Onto Abbas Khatami, and an awesome leg workout. I always thought Abbas was just another top NPC guy, that perhaps was nothing special. WRONG! Abbas’ leg workout was a lesson in intensity. This segment was filmed shortly after Abbas’ win as a super heavyweight at the 2004 North American, and Abbas retained great conditioning.
We see great muscularity in his quads while he does leg extensions, lunges and then finally squats. The man knows how to train hard. I have to say, I’m now a fan.

Lets move onto Jason Bard. Jason is more of a Herculean physique. Big thick and massive, in fact the heaviest guy on the dvd at something like 270lbs! His chest routine, with some shoulders thrown in, is awe inspiring! An awesome display of muscle density. Again, Guy asks some insightful questions so that the viewer gets to know the athlete.

Finally we see Richard Farley train delts under the watchful eye of Robert Farag. Richard has a very symmetrical and pleasing physique, which is in great condition. If the viewer is careful you will see little tricks Robert employs to assist the athlete in concentrating and working the muscle correctly. One highlight is the awesome lower back striations.

We also have a posing display in the famous Gold’s Gym posing room, with Jerome Ferguson and then Richard Farley. Talk about awesome, wait to you see these guys. Great size and conditioning.

Then Guy interviews Abbas, Jason, and Richard outside of Gold’s. Guy really shows off his interviewing skills here as he asks questions that are both entertaining and educational for any bodybuilder.

Some highlights of this dvd are the great music and special affects that Guy had edited into this production. The quality really speaks for itself. The camera angles are great and you get a sense that it was done by a Hollywood producer. Mr. Grundy should be very proud of himself.

Many dvd’s/videos can sometimes get boring. How many times can we watch a bodybuilder do smith machine presses anyway? In most cases the dvd is carried by the athlete, some one who is freaky and who we want to see train in a high intense way with lots of weight. Well this dvd, is more a like a quick intro into these guys careers, and the way Mr. Grundy filmed it, made it both entertaining and educational. I would have to say it was indeed a pleasure to watch. Not mention at a price of $19.95, a steal!

I give this dvd a 5 out of 5! And if I can borrow from Mr. Grundy“way to go mate!”
